1．学習の進め方
原則として、1コマで1 Lesson進みます。授業の進行に合わせて、リンガポルタ、教科書の問題などを進めてください。もちろん、授業の進度よりも先に進んで学習してもかまいません。授業の進度よりも遅れてしまった場合には、遅れを取り戻すように学習しましょう。
2．辞書、参考書、Web検索など
この授業では、辞書や参考書の参照、また必要に応じてWeb検索などをしてもかまいません。むしろ、自分で調べて学習することを勧めます。eラーニングについては、間違った場合でも何度でも解答できますし、それでも分からない場合には「正解」を見ることができます。初回で正解を得ることできなかった場合には、再度同じ問題が出てきますので、正解を得るようにしましょう。
また、理解の助け、および設問の解答のヒントとして和訳を検索できるClue Searchという機能がこのサイトに用意されています。意味がわからない文については、この機能を使うと便利です。

3．授業時間
この授業では、授業時間中にアクセスすることを必須とします。また、授業時間以外にeラーニングや教科書の問題に取り組むことも必要です。出席扱いについては、下のシラバスを参照してください。
5．使用教材
(1)教科書
リンガポルタや本サイト、授業などで学んだことを直接記入してください。自分で調べたことなども書いておきましょう。
(2)リンガポルタ
教科書を購入すると、eラーニング「リンガポルタ」を利用することができます。リンガポルタはPCやスマホで学習が可能です。本授業では、リンガポルタの学習を必須とします。
教科書の問題が難しいと感じる場合には、リンガポルタを先に学習し、その後で教科書の問題に取り組むとスムーズに学習を進めることができます。

(3)教科書の問題
教科書の問題は、本サイト上で答え合わせができます。採点して満点でなかったら、再度挑戦し、最終的にはすべて満点になるようにしてください。何度でもチャレンジできますが、成績に反省されるのは、最初の解答になります。したがって、最初に提出する際には、しっかりと確認して提出するようにしましょう。
(4)Special Questions
Special Questionsは、教科書にもリンガポルタにも載っていない、独自の問題を授業中に提示します。解答は辞書などを使ってもかまいません。答えが分かったら、Special Quesiotns Answer Formから答えを送ってください。授業の最後か次回の授業時に正解を発表します。正解の発表まで皆さんの解答を受け付けます。
6．質問など
質問などをする場合には、(1)授業中に音声・ビデオ等を有効にして話しかける、(2)メールを送る、などの方法があります。(1)については、他の学生にも参考になるような質問を、(2)については、個人的な内容、成績などにかかわる内容にしてください。
7．その他
本授業は、スマホでも学習が可能ですが、パソコンでの学習を推奨します。また、授業支援システムを利用しませんので、アクセス時間などの制約を受けることはありません。

【授業要旨または授業概要】
The main purpose of this course is to help students develop a strong foundation in English for their future careers. Graduate students in technological fields, whether they will become researchers or work for a company, will need to exchange emails and create documents in English based on the information gathered. They will also need to attend meetings and give presentations in English.
While this course aims to develop their general English abilities in all four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), three types of programs will be offered for students to choose from and each type has its special emphasized areas. Type A places an emphasis on oral communication, including presentation and discussion in English. Type B is intended to improve their writing skill including business correspondence, emails, and technical writing. Type C focuses on reading and grammatical rules so that students can comprehend manuals and technical information on the internet or mass media.
For those who wish to study further, the elective course “English Presentation for Engineers” will be offered in the fall semester. It is designed for students who need more opportunities to practice various skills required to give an effective presentation.

◆予習・復習
At least 1 hour of preparation and/or review is expected before and after each class session. For this particular class, students are expected to study on LINGUAPORTA, an e-learning program designed for the course. The score obtained on LINGUAPORTA will be included in the final evaluation.
